Photography Competition

Theme: Climate Change - What does it mean to you?

Tell us, through your lenses, what climate change means to you, submit the photo along with a short description (50 – 100 words) and stand to win $1000!  We are looking for entries that display creativity and originality. Open exclusively to the NUS community, this competition is in conjunction with Green Carnival 2008, themed NUS Fights Climate Change.

Climate change is is a multi-disciplinary topic. One can look at it from a scientific, geographical, psychological, sociological, economical, political and even philosophical point of view. The climate change phenomenon began with observations of the physical aspects of our climate (physical sciences). Later on, scientists worldwide affirmed that human activities are the main cause of it (human sciences). Presently, world leaders are taking urgent action in order to mitigate the problem (politics, economics).

To you, climate change can mean the irresponsible act of consuming more than necessary, or the harmful emissions from a car exhaust pipe. To others, it can mean successes in the climate challenge, like the scene of a person carrying a recyclable bag, or a hugely successful environmental campaign. Whatever it is, we would like you to share it with us!

1st Prize: $1000
2nd Prize: $700
3rd Prize: $300
and 5 consolation prizes worth $100 each.

Selected entries will be displayed in NUSSU SAVE Green Carnival exhibition at NUS Central Forum from the 25th to 27th August 2008. Every visitor to the exhibition is eligible to vote for his or her favourite photo. Voting comprises 20% of the total score.
