save3s

SAVE3s aims to minimize the excessive and often unnecessary usage of papers on NUS campus. The project aims to reduce paper consumption by setting printers to default double-sided printing.

Computers in all libraries and major computer labs (C J Koh Law Library, Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library, Medical/Science Library, Music Library, Central Library, Arts and Social Science faculty AS7 Computer Cluster, Science faculty S10 Computer Cluster, Bukit Timah Campus Computer Cluster, Yusof Ishak House Computer Cluster) were set to default double-sided printing on 31 March 2008. The project was very well-received by the NUS community with many positive email feedback.

Showing strong support and endorsement for the campaign, the Office of Provost, represented by Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, Professor Alan Chan, has approved the submission of all reports, assignments and theses for both Undergraduate and Graduate studies, on either double-sided print or through electronic submission.

Extension of SAVE3s Project

  • Continual promotion of SAVE3s campaign by Office of Provost to encourage students to submit assignments on double-sided print

  • Extension of SAVE3s to all the remaining computer clusters and administrative offices (through Sustainable Office programme) on campus by end 2008

  • Monitoring campus-wide paper consumption and reducing paper consumption by 30% at the end of the academic year 2008/2009

  • Initiating a series of tree-planting events to offset our carbon footprint for Green Carnival 2008: such events are similar to ‘Plant A Programme’ (June 2007) in NUS which was officiated by Mr Lee Yuen Hee, CEO NEA and SW CDC 100,000 Native Plants at South West Corporate Sponsorship Programme which was graced by Dr Amy Khor.
